A few weeks ago I scooped up my little family and we took a trip to Austin. It was our first trip to Austin, and Lily and David's first trip to Texas. And it went oh-so well.
We packed up and hit the road, then hopped on a plane. When we landed in Austin we (or at least I) whole-heartedly welcomed the warm sun and humid air, the open sky and traffic. Living in the mountains makes one miss those things that are usually not appreciated.
We did plenty of site-seeing, and ended up spending most of our days roaming around South Congress Avenue or strolling around downtown. We also hit up the Renegade Craft fair (from which I left with some awesome cloth napkins from Nell & Mary).
And we ate. Oh my, did we eat. We ate everything from breakfast burritos and chicken and waffles to calamari and macarons. We had yummy cocktails, including a pineapple, sage, and vodka one that I have to recreate, and food truck cupcakes.
My favorite meal? A ninth anniversary dinner at Vespaio in SoCo. Or, really, it might have been those chicken and waffles. No joke.
Whether we were eating or strolling, I totally fell in love with Austin. It has officially been added to my list of places in which I would definitely live.
The only problem is that if I lived there, I would be so fat.
